Oh, Canada

OTTAWA - Women in Canada should soon have access to the morning-after pill without a doctor's prescription.

The drug levonorgestrel, sold under the brand name Plan B, has been approved for sale directly from pharmacies, Health Canada confirmed Wednesday.

Which, of course, begs the question: if we could do an over-the-counter plan B deal in the US, would we then have check-out clerks who refused to sell you plan B for "moral reasons"?

And yet, we've got people selling liquor and tobacco products. Oh, yes, tobacco kills! What about the Culture of Life!!??. How can those check-out clerks *sleep* at night!!!

But shit, pharmacists are hopping over the line all over the place.

This isn't what I signed up for. Where's my rights? I think we all need a little lesson of the "not everybody thinks like I do" variety.

Think of the amazing peace, love, and understanding that would engender.

Pretty scary.

Plan-B has been available here for some time now(BC-Canada). I got it from a pharmacist a few months ago, required a 5 minute sit down conversation with the pharmacist.....the strange part is that it was more expensive to get it straight from the pharmacist than it would have been to have visited a Dr. first and then got the same prescription filled by the same pharmacist. ---yeah, make me pay more for not spending tax dollars on a Dr. visit.

here in canada, there were pharmacists who responded to this decision by saying that they could refuse to sell plan b over the counter, as long as they provided the customer with another pharmacist who would fill the order (either in-store, or at another pharmacy). what is this, a shame game? in this case, the customer is still going to get the drug, so refusing to provide it is essentially a means to humiliate someone who is obviously concerned with her well-being.

on the other hand, there are canadian lobbyists who are fighting to have plan b in the aisles, for even easier access.
