Children of Men

Wow.

What a boring, pointless, terrible movie.

You're kidding me! It was tremendously immersive, hopeful, and thoughtful. Did you sense something misogynist that I didn't see? I would hate it if the film BLAMED the women for their infertility, but it explicitly doesn't.

And those long takes (the happy car scene that turns into an ambush, and the long battle sequence at the end) are just breathtaking.

It wasn't any sort of blatant misogyny that bothered me (though yeah, the whole "it's the women's fault we can't have babies" was annoying because it *was* so offhand. It was never explored or explained).

I thought it was an incredibly hopeless movie whose only real point was, "We better keep having babies or things will get EVEN WORSE."

They had a great concept that they did very little with. Instead, it was one violent death after another. And oh man, that angelic music that plays when the Holy Mother and Child walk through the battle? (it repeats in other Holy Mother places), absolute cheese, IMO.

I think they missed a lot of opportunities.
