Every year, I go to Wiscon. If I were to go to one other SF/F convention a year....

... which con should it be?

For reasonably local, fun, with great guests, and a semi-low cost, I'd recommend ConFusion or PenguiCon. Both tend to draw national guests/panelists, people in the publishing industry, some really nice fans, and are a great time.

Are you factoring in distance travel to this?

Because I'd recommend the World Fantasy Convention as one of the best networking conferences I frequently attend. Though this year I'm not attending because it's in Canada, but it moves around so you might want to check ahead. I think in 2010 it's in Ohio.

Distance isn't really a factor so long as it's in the US (so Canada this year would be out), but I'm actually looking more for fun than networking.

Though I know they can often go hand in hand, it's been awhile since I just had out and out fun at a con. Maybe because I'm getting really anxious about the whole networking part?

I'm still going through that weird transition where this whole writing thing is becoming sort of like a job, and tho the getting paid part of that is nice, the social pressure part of it kinda blew at Wiscon this year.

I find that World Fantasy is the most fun as well as the most useful, because I get to hang out with my writer friends.

Me, I'd like to go to Readercon. World Fantasy would probably be a better choice for you, though, at least professionally. (Why is Canada out?)

I'm going to start going to World Fantasy each year, I think. So you should too!

Hey, we could totally make a pact that if neither of us had a lunch/dinner group we would always go together!

It would be a great way to ease our social anxiety!!! ;)

I'm up for a lunch/dinner pact! Starting next year, as I can't make it to Canada this year.

Social Anxiety suffers unite!
