Another Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood

And, it keeps going... (good for Chris for getting back on topic).

Here's an interesting study via BFB about dieting and dying younger.

And my question is, why was the firearm unused? These were obviously not native Alaskans. Bears will kill you. In Alaska, there are bears. They are big. They will eat you. I promise.

Sometimes it's hard to maneuver a rifle in a small tent. At night perhaps. I assume they were asleep. But yeah, possibly out of towners. Then there was that one famous nature photographer who got 'et up there a few years back. Claimed he understood & communicated with 'his' grizzlies. Never had any trouble until the day he died from an attack while filming. Made for fairly chilling footage really. All the way he was narrating his own coming demise. 'Oh, the big sow is turning away from her cubs and coming this way...'. 'Gee they move fast...'

For that reason alone, I think the standard issue side arm for the back country for years was a hefty .44 Mag Ruger Revolver. But heck a .40 standard issue Glock Auto will do fine in a pinch when in dire trouble. But yeah, it's one of the few places on earth (besides obvious war zones) where it pays to keep a side arm handy most of the time.

Best I could figure it, the bear attacked one of them first, and the other one was too panicked trying to get the bear's attention in order to save the other one that they didn't grab the gun...

Which is another handy tip for the AK wilderness:

ALWAYS carry your gun on your person.

ALWAYS.
