What Price

I guess you're worth more before you're born into sin.

Being a woman is like being 3/4 of a real person. I mean, a potential person.

We're not worth much.

These days we're up to 4/5 of a real person. (Hey, the baby could have been a boy...)

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!

THE FETUS MUST HAVE BEEN A BOY!!

Gawd.

Hmmm, yeah, this makes a good word problem. I should assign it sometime. Though we really should test the gender of the fetus to make an accurate judgment, in the absense of testing, we can treat it as half of a man plus half of a woman. Expected value-wise, a gender-unspecified fetus is worth a 20 year sentence, while a woman is worth 16. Or:

.5M + .5W = 20, and W = 16. So we see that M = 24. So, in fact, W/M = 2/3.

Which is better than 3/5.
